Job Position:  Counselor in Training (CIT)


Qualifications: 

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age by the end of summer and have completed their last year of camp (if participant is a previous camper). 
  2. High school graduates preferred.
  3. Experience working with children preferred.


Compensation: This is a volunteer position at camp. We will award participants community service hours and provide room and board during the week. We will also provide coaching in personal and professional development for participants.


Duration: CIT's will attend two days and one night of staff training, in addition to one full week with campers at some point during the summer season.


Essential Function: 

The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience and skill development in preparation for a future role as a camp counselor. CITs work alongside and are mentored by an experienced counselor who serves as their guide and support throughout the program. Under supervision, CITs assist with leading activities, engaging with campers, and building positive, respectful relationships while modeling appropriate behavior. This position offers a supportive environment to develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while gaining valuable experience in a camp setting.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Work under the supervision of counselors.
  2. Foster a positive and nurturing atmosphere for all campers.
  3. Enforce safety and health regulations.
  4. Support the physical and emotional well-being of campers.
  5. Participate, lead, and assist with all camp programming. 
  6. Ensure the general cleanliness and sanitary conditions of camp, including private living spaces at camp.
  7. Supervise and assist camper clean-up duties.
  8. Participate in abbreviated staff training.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of all medical information regarding campers and staff.
  10. Follow all camp rules, policies, and regulations.
  11. Follow duty schedule unless previously arranged with the Camp Director.
  12. Sign out with the Camp Director when leaving camp (No Exceptions).
  13. Other duties to further the Gales Creek Camp mission and outcomes of Gales Creek Camp, as assigned.
