Job Title: Camp Dietitian


Qualifications:

  • Registration or registration eligibility by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Experience working with individuals with type 1 diabetes
  • Current Washington County Food Handler Permit or ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
  • Experience working with children and adolescent population preferred
  • Food service management, food preparation skills preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Current CPR and first-aid certification
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.


Essential Function:  The camp dietitian is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of a nutrition care plan for each camper. In collaboration with the cook, the dietitian plans weekly menus, and calculates nutrition information for foods served.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Pre-Camp:

  1. Collaborate with Camp Manager, Head Cook and Medical Services Director to evaluate, plan and develop cycles of weekly camp menus.
  2. Collaborate with Camp Manager and Head Cook to learn and place food orders.
  3. Perform analysis of weekly menus to calculate carbohydrate content of servings and assure meals are nutritious, balanced and camper friendly.
  4. Attend and participate in orientation training for staff members.
  5. Provide staff training on nutrition relevant topics such as; carbohydrate counting, celiac disease and gluten-free diet, food or additive allergens. 

 


During Camp

  1. Conduct camper intake assessments to identify nutrition concerns, food intolerances, allergies, dislikes, special needs and typical home diabetes nutrition management.
  2. Plan and document nutrition care plan in Camper Medical Record.
  3. Participate in weekly medical team meetings to review camper healthcare needs, and nutrition care plans.
  4. Confirm camper food choices at meals and snacks to assure they receive prescribed carbohydrate intake and approve all food substitutions at mealtimes.
  5. Assist with the preparation of special diets and food items including, but not limited to gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian menu options.
  6. Plan and oversee the preparation and serving of camper snacks by kitchen staff.
  7. Provide relief coverage for Head Cook during time-off.
  8. Plan and provide 1  20–30-minute age-appropriate weekly camper education session. 
  9. Provide individual nutrition consultation to staff members upon request.  
  10. Coordinate ordering of food and supplies used in Health House and camper Cabins.
  11. Participate in performance evaluation of kitchen staff with the Head Cook.
  12. Prepare and submit written post-camp evaluation of camp food service program with
  13. recommended changes.


Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Follow all camp policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  2. Maintains confidentiality of all medical information regarding campers and staff.
  3. Participate in weekly camp activities, as able.
  4. Participate in additional duties as assigned.
